Runa’s youngest singing performance was at the age of 4 where she secured 1st position in singing winning Sukumar Roy’s a poetry collection.

 

The first big opportunity knocked at Runa’s door when she was still in school. At that point of time she had already expressed her wish towards her father that she wanted to learn singing. She started learning Rabindrasangeet with Indrani mam (from Rabindra Bharati , student of Suchitra Mitra).

 

While she enjoyed singing Tagore’s songs she had a secret fascination for Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar songs. She started humming, wherever she could.

In order to understand and learn music she started taking classical training under the auspices of Sunil Bhattacharya (Kirana Gharana ) and herself training even continues today. While Runa wanted to explore the Bengali genre of music she also started taking lessons in Bangla Adhunik gaan under Tarun Mukhapadhyay , Jatileswar Mukherjee and folks songs under Abhijit Basu.

 

Currently Runa’s preoccupation include her work, her family and her cultural activities. She is an MBA and completed her post graduation in computer application and is a Microsoft certified professional.

 

Her mother named her Sudipta which incidentally was on offshoot from her mother’s name – Dipti , she go by Runa , a name easy to pronounce , write and remember. She also had a deep fascination towards theatres and drama when she started participating in different competition in school and colleges and exploring herself as a stage actor. By then she realized the possibility in her as an actor.

 

Her first play was the character of shylock in merchant of Venice. She was so happy on the overwhelming response she received on her performance.

 

And the journey still continues today as a vocalist writer director and actor.
